The story of Copenhagen 59

Copenhagen 59 stayed true to tradition, with the winner of the Finn Gold Cup getting the chance to bring the following championship to home waters. Following the 1958 title in Zeebrugge, Paul Elvstrøm took the event home to Hellerup, just north of Copenhagen, in 1959.

Elvstrøm sailed a stellar event and took a commanding GOLD after winning four out of six races, resulting in a remarkable difference of 2.600 points.

In 1959 Paul Elvstrøm won The World Championship on the waters where everything began - hosting the event was Hellerup Sejlklub.
